The wind blew fiercely down on the young, lithe she-wolf, covering her thick gray coat with a layer of snow that endlessly fell from above, chilling her presently frozen body even more. She gazed back at what she had previously left behind; her fellow pack, huddled closely in their dens, fighting the cold breeze that made its way through even the thickest walls of various bush and undergrowth surrounding her pack's home. She blinked the snow out of her eyes as she cut her gaze short and continued her short journey up the hill. The frost gave way with every paw step made, creating a winding pathway behind her...or, rather, it should have. She glanced back, watching her paw prints disappear as fresh snow filled up its space. They would risk their lives to ensure the pack with a safe future, and in turn, she did the same. Ruling with the opinions of all, rather then just her own. If she concentrated hard enough, past the freezing winter's fury and the desolate-looking land that surrounded her, she could remember the land during summer, the feelings along with it.

Grass plains stretching down to the lake and river sides, gleaming in the sun as if it were a lake of fire. Ancient pine trees seemed to reach the sky with their tips, scattering across the mountain ranges for miles on end. Guards strolling back and forth between their posts, chuckling as mothers retrieved their curious little pups, brave enough to sneak out of the nursery and follow the young hunters into the forests. Everywhere her mind took her, she saw life and happiness, and believed that it would always be as so....
Until she opened her eyes and rested them back on the current world. Something terrible was growing far off in the distance, like the night creeping up on the day from the horizon, and it was coming closer and closer every moon. Was it man and their horrible machines, or another horrible frost, like this one? It flooded her mind, and then, as she looked again to where the strong sense of danger was originating from, she realized who they were and what they were coming for....
